I had it on Viveport subscription for a month and consequently decided to buy it on Steam. It's a PvP game where you battle it out with wands. Quite a strategic game and highly addictive. Especially when you really, really want to beat that one person who keeps killing you.If you don't like PvP it's not for you, as there's no real single-player mode. But if you want a PvP VR game and you've always fancied yourself as a wizard or mage, then frankly you need this game in your VR library! Plus it's actually offered at a reasonable price.Needs more people playing it... so I highly recommend it for selfish reasons.Edit: Wow. Since the v1.4 update this game is 100 times more beautiful in the lobby area.. I purchased this game because I wanted a spell casting type game and also wanted to see if it worked with Windows Mixed Reatily headset and motion conrollers.Core gameplay is excellent, spell casting is fun, you carry 4 spells into battle and with 22 spells to choose from it makes trying different loadouts fun. The player base is nice and there's a discord channel to talk strategy and to help find others to play with.Though this game is just released on Steam, it's been available for GearVR, Daydream, Vive and Oculus and the multi-player is cross platform. As for it's compatibility with Windows Mixed Reality, it technically works but the motion contollers have a compatibility issue. In order to turn your character or select between spells you need to both have a finger on the touchpad and then also move the analog stick on the same controller. This is not easily done with one hand and puts you at a disadvantage in multiplayer. However it does fully support the Xbox controller and works perfectly fine with that (HINT: To accept the EULA use the right stick to scroll and RT to check the boxes and click ACCEPT). Tracking for the controllers was great as they rarely leave your line of sight. Beyond the WMR compatibily, I have only two suggestions:1) On the EULA page, for those using a controller please show what buttons do what, it took me a while to discover RT was the activator button.2) When running out of casting mana by casting too fast, there's a flash of color. It's a bit uncomfortable and may even need a seizure warning for those more sesitive. TL;DR: Game is fun, WIndows Mixed Reality works with a gamepad controller but has issues with the motion controllers. I think I'll keep the game in hopes for a controller update to support WMR.. This is a 1v1 dueling game.I've only played 4 hours so I can't tell you how seriously to take this game yet because your wand can only have 4 spells on it plus the default teleport spell which you can't remove. Which means that there will either be the case of:a) One wand aka spell combo is the best in the game or on a specific map, and everyone should be using it.b) It's rock paper scissor. But a better player can ofcourse still win even as an underdog. And the spell combo advantages against other spell combos could be very small. The game is super fun so far and waiting times are very short (30 sec - 2 min) to be matched against another player. I get matched against mostly new players and I win probably about 99% at least on my way to level 10+. It wasn't before about level 13 that I got matched against a couple high ranked players.I recommend reading the wiki here: http:\/\/wiki.wandsgame.com\/wiki and joining the discord channel.. I genuinely love this game. Wands has a totally unique style of gameplay that strongly emphasises strategy. It's PvP wizard dueling! Some important points: There is no free movement here; instead, you teleport to a fixed set of "tiles" in each of the six arenas. This has two implications for your experience: 1) it's super comfortable; the only motion you experience is what you physically do in your space and 2) the gameplay comes down to your ability to control your opponents' access to these tiles. Sure, it's limiting. You don't get to whiz around in VR using the latest creative control scheme. However, gameplay-wise, this is probably Wands' greatest strength; the limitation of movement makes this essentially a full-information game. There are very few cutsie tricks that you discover from the arenas by way of experience (though there are a handful) as you would find in other PvP games. Most importantly, your opponent can't hide. If you understand each arena and each spell, you are perfectly capable of formulating a unique strategy that will surprise even the most experienced opponent. Mechanics-wise you choose four spells from the 25 available options to equip a "loadout". You bring one loadout into a duel. These are your only weapons and defenses. A bit over half of the spells are projectiles of various sorts that differ in kind (splash or direct damage), cost, and damage caused. Spells, including your teleport ability, cost mana which replenishes at a set rate throughout the duel. You win by getting your opponents' HP to zero or by having the highest HP at the end of the 3.5 minute duel. There are three fixed locations in each arena for health pickups that give 15 HP back and which respawn at a set rate during the middle portion of the duel. Each arena has its own environmental effect including a temporary free teleport pickup, boosted mana regen\/increased damage on a specific tile, and various damage-causing environmental hazards. The newest arena has an environment which forces players to physically move through the arena to avoid storm damage a la battle royale games. This game is multiplatform with mobile VR. In my experience, most of your opponents will be on Gear VR. If you buy this game on Steam, you're in luck: the skill ceiling is higher! Room scale to allows you to physically dodge some of your mobile friends' attacks. There is a bit of a learning curve, no skill-based matchmaking (yet), and Wands has developed a fairly active community that play a lot (Full disclosure: I'm a member). This means that you're likely to encounter one of these players when you first enter. To continue playing, you have to be alright with taking it on the chin a few times against one of these guys. Quickest way to learn. The game is gorgeous, easily the most visually appealing VR game I've played. As mentioned in other reviews, Wands is purely PvP, with the exception of a mini-game that you can access in the lobby. There is no story mode or AI opponent feature. There is no in-game voice chat in the Steam version. This game is fairly frequently updated with new content and the devs are receptive to bug reports and feedback. Since I got the game on mobile in December of last year, they have added something like half a dozen new spells, a new arena, a totally refurbished and beautiful starting area ("The Workshop"), and have made several balance changes. Check the update history. The devs are remarkably timely with updates. I've never actually experienced a game in ongoing development that actually surprises its community with updates; refreshing..
